Determination Drilling involved in Erie Shores windfarm!
Posted on: December 20 th, 2010

Determination Drilling has thier CME 55 track mounted drilling rig in the Norfolk area drilling boreholes for a geotechnical drilling project that requires information of soil and bedrock for the proposed "Erie Shores" Ontario wind farm. Geotechnical drilling is needed to determine ground stability for them to continue planning of the windfarms development. The Erie Shores windfarm will power 32,000 homes in Ontario, and will be ready next year. Determination Drilling is proud to be part of renewable energy sources that are good for the environment, and delighted to be involved in Ontario's effort to reduce our footprint on the world.

CME 55 in James Bay Lowlands !!!

Posted on: November 10 th, 2010

Determination Drilling sent thier customized CME 55 drilling rig for a heli portable drilling contract. Drilling for two months through the permafrost soils and coring the bedrock beneath, for full sampling and investigation, followed by monitoring well installations. Drilling includes augering through soils then casing into the bedrock with HW and coring with HQ rod. This is not the first time that our CME 55 trailer mounted drilling rig has performed wash boring and diamond core drilling, but it is the first time spinning HQ rod for the sampling of rock. This now presents a new list of services for us, we are capable of HQ coring to depths of 200' on our CME drilling equipment.

Drilling on Baffin Island Again!!!

Posted on: July27th, 2010

Determination Drilling has been awarded another drilling project on Baffin Island again. This drilling project regarding permafrost layers, and there effect on the surrounding structures. Only one drilling technician was sent from Determination Drilling, but combined as a team with two other drillers who were transfered there for the project. Using a down the hole hammer method to get through perma frost layers and to drill into the rock. After borehole completion, wells were installed for further investigations. We do love the northern country.

Determination Drilling switches to Environmentally Safe Hydraulic Fluid

Posted on: December 18th, 2009
Green Plus Hydraulic Fluid ES

We now run Greenplus Hydraulic Fluid ES in all of our drilling equipment. The fluid is based on vegetable oils and is rapidly biodegradable, operator safe, and safe for the environment. This is important to Determination Drilling for a number of reasons, it will lower our environmental footprint as a company, and it shows our environmental stewardship. We are a contracted environmental drilling company, who drills to find contaminated soils, for either remediation clean up or removal of contaminated soil. See our supplier's website for more information.

Geotechnical Drilling on Baffin Island

Posted on: September 1st, 2009

Determination Drilling is set to start a drilling program in Pangnirtung, Nunavut. This will be the first time for us drilling on Baffin Island. The project includes auger drilling through overburden and rock coring through boulders as well as bedrock. All samples of soil and rock will be shipped back to Ontario for analysis. The main focus of the project is to expand the town's harbour and allow larger vessels through, our auger drilling and diamond core drilling results will then give them enough data of the ground, for them to continue with their harbour project. We are sending four drillers to run a night shift and a day shift, we have also agreed to hire on one local per shift to teach them about the drilling industry and drilling safety. Stay warm!

Dan Visits the Bariod Bentonite mines of Wyoming

Determination Drilling uses Baroid
Posted on: July 4rth, 2009

Dan, owner of Determination Drilling goes to Wyoming, USA to design and help install auger guarding systems. At the Baroid mines in Wyoming, they are outfitted with a few trucks that are used for exploration drilling. There sole purpose is to drill down into the soils, using solid stem augers, to find pockets of bentonite, which they then extract.
Seeing our videos of our drilling safety device, they contacted Determination Drilling to go to there mine and custom build three auger rotation guards, for drilling safety. This proved to be an effective project for Baroid, as they have now refreshed thier safety practices when drilling. Determination Drilling is promoting drilling safety in all ways that we can.

Back to Labrador City

Drilling in Labrador City-IOC

Once again, Determination Drilling will be on the road for another iron mine exploration drilling contract for the IOC in Labrador city, Newfoundland. This time the contract is mainly a geotechnical drilling project which will include auger drilling & soil sampling through overburden, then diamond core drilling with NQ rod to extract rock samples. Though most of the drilling will take place in the Iron Ore Companies mine, some of the other boreholes are located deep in thick forest, which will require rough travel with our drilling equipment. Some drill sites are so far in deep forest we will need to access sites by helicopter. Have fun team and Drill Safe!

Determination Drilling now certified...

Diamonds from the Victor Mine

The Determination Drilling crew is going back to the James Bay Lowlands for another contract at the DeBeers Victor Project, in Northern Ontario. This time, with our CME 55 Track drilling equipment,we will be auger drilling through all permafrost overburden, soil sampling throughout, then diamond core drilling the bedrock to execute the exploration drilling program of diamond-containing kimberlite deposits. The drilling team leave Feb. 17th, and will be returning in mid March. Good luck team, be safe and stay warm!
