WHMIS: The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS for short) is a comprehensive national system for safe management of hazardous chemicals which is legislated by both the federal and provincial jurisdictions. The key elements of the system are cautionary labelling of containers of WHMIS "controlled products", the provision of material safety data sheets (MSDSs) and worker education and training programs.
Fall Protection Awareness: Falls from heights are among the leading causes of death and injury in the workplace. Health and safety legislation across North America contains requirements to protect workers from falls. The course includes training on: Hazard Elimination, Hazard Prevention, Fall Arrest Systems, Anchorage Points, Full Body Harness, Means of Connection, Fall Arresters and Vertical Lifelines, Rope Grab Type Fall Arresters, Rope Lifelines, Cable & Rail Type Fall Arresters, Lanyards, Self Retracting Lifelines or SRL’s, Shock Absorbers, and Choosing a Fall Arrest System.
Lockout/Tagout: The Lockout/Tagout standard requires the adoption and implementation of practices and procedures to shut down equipment, isolate it from its energy source(s), and prevent the release of potentially hazardous energy while maintenance and servicing activities are being performed. It contains minimum performance requirements, and definitive criteria for establishing an effective program for the control of hazardous energy. However, employers have the flexibility to develop lockout/tagout programs that are suitable for their respective facilities.
